SHENANDOAH VALLEY AREA TEAM

Ministry Teams mobilize and assist individuals, churches, and groups to become actively involved in fulfilling The Great Commission through Operation Christmas Child (OCC).  Each team consists of dedicated individuals committed to fulfill the mission of OCC through the use of their gifts and talents.  Here is a brief description of each ministry team.

Church Relations Team:  Many people hear about OCC in their local church, but there are many churches that have never heard of this life-changing ministry.  This inter-denominational team actively mobilizes Christian churches to participate in OCC by giving shoe box gifts, prayer, and financial support in a given area.  They also provide support for those churches already participating in the ministry.

Community Relations Team:  Everyone can participate in Operation Christmas Child.  It is not limited to churches.  It is perfect for Christian schools, home school groups, civic groups, scout troops and other groups.  This team actively mobilizes the community at large to be involved in OCC by giving shoe box gifts, prayer, financial support, and plans special promotional events as well.

Prayer Team:  Prayer is the foundation of Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child.  This team is devoted to pray and lead others in praying for the ministry.  It is essential to the success of all that we do to support all levels of the ministry with consistent intercession.

Media Relations Team:  One of the most effective ways to share a message is through the local media.  This team works closely with various media outlets within a given area to share how everyone can participate in OCC.  Professionally produced media resources are readily available to help the process.

Collection Center Team:  To help participants donate their shoe box gifts, drop-off sites are strategically placed throughout the United States.  Volunteers at area sites (called Collection Centers) work closely with community drop-off locations (called Relay Centers).  Collection Centers make sure the gifts are delivered properly to the Processing Center, where boxes are inspected and packed for overseas shipment.  Each shoe box gift is precious, and this team assures that the gifts are handled appropriately.  Volunteers on this team range from greeters to those packing and carrying large cartons.  It’s fun for everyone.

Relay Center Team:  People are more likely to participate in OCC if it is made convenient for them.  That is the purpose behind a relay center team.  This team is very similar to the Collection Center Team, but is responsible for collection of gifts in a smaller geographic area and transporting them to a Collection Center.
